This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When growing up did you ever get tired of those boring math drills 2 x 2 is 4? While those methods are great for memory, students today can't see how it applies to daily life. Through these centers, students will be able to remember these key facts as well as use the math skills outside a worksheet.
I teach a group of students in a charter school located in an urban community dealing with many challenges beyond the classroom.
Many of these students come in with burdens that are more difficult than the math test they are going to have. Ours is a school district where we do not have enough resources spent on materials these students need to get them interested in learning. Here at our school, we strive to give these students opportunities they would not normally receive elsewhere. My classroom is filled with a vibrant group of young learners who love trying new things and learning new skills. They are very resourceful at creating activities and projects with the limited supplies that they have. They are always thirsty to learn more and try new things.
My Project
Through your donation my students will be receiving well deserved math centers. They have done an excellent job utilizing the limited math supplies that I have, and through this donation they will have math games and activities that allow them to use their math skills in other ways. It helps them to see that math is more than memorizing and worksheets, and that it can be fun and interesting. These centers allow them to explore real life examples that they would use outside of the classroom in a game format.
This project is not only important to me, but to my students.
I try to provide for my students all year long but it is becoming a financial burden to continue to take on the expenses of my class on my own. The amount of assistance we are receiving from the school and the district has become very limited due to budget cuts. Through your help, my students can receive the best, to become the best mathematicians they can be.
