My students need magnet kits, rock collections and other science resources as well as counters, place value strips, dice sets, a book, and other math manipulates to enhance and support their learning.
I have 20 future scientists sitting before me each day! My students love math and science because I love math and science! I especially love teaching math and science!
I have 20 budding scientists and mathematicians just beaming with excitement at the prospect of what they will learn in math or science each day.
They come everyday to a small Title 1 and California Distinguished School ready to learn and excited about life!
Our school is a family. Everybody knows everyone else and all the teachers help and support all the students that attend our school not just the ones in their own classrooms. We have families that help prep materials, work in the gardens, and volunteer in the classroom. Our school is unlike any other in our large district. We are a hidden gem and everyone that walks through our gates, students, teachers, staff, and families walks through them happily.
My Project
The magnet kits, rock collections and other science resources that I have asked for will allow my students to explore our science units with realia. They will be able to experiment and play with the concepts and not just read about them. They will be able to explore magnets and discover all the things that attract or repel magnets around them. They will hold igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks and not just look at pictures in a book. The teachers' guides will add activities and help further their understanding of these 2 important units in science.
The counters, place value strips, dice sets, and other math manipulatives will allow the students to learn their multiplication facts. The dice and counters will allow my students to play math games at home with their families who might not have a die lying around or counters to mark spots in games. The place value chart will allow the students to "play" with numbers as they come up to the board and place numbers on the chart or stand under it and become the number.
These resources will allow my students to have hands-on experiences in science.
They will play with magnets and touch rocks. These resources will allow my students to play with math. They will roll dice, play number games, and realize that learning and math can be so so fun.
