My students are middle schoolers in the southeast section of Queens, NY. They come to our school from a range of elementary schools all over our large district. Our small school numbers about 250 students and allows for us to have a great sense of community.
Our school is a Title 1 school, and the majority of our students come from families that are struggling.
I would like to provide my students with a classroom full of resources that allow everyone to succeed regardless of their learning style or what supplies they have at home.
My Project
The materials from this project will be used to assist my sixth grade students to develop their math skills. I want to make sure that my students have manipulative tools to enhance and differentiate their learning in the classroom.
Manipulatives build real-world understanding of mathematical concepts by helping students have tangible examples of the topic being discussed.
The counters will be used for a variety of topics including solving equations with variables and learning to use positive and negative numbers. The fraction tiles will help students to learn how to divide fractions. The pencils and notebooks will ensure that every student has the supplies needed to complete their work.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
