This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students love to be at school. They love to learn, and they enjoy being an important part of their community. Nearly all the students that attend our school live in low-income households, but that doesn't stop them from contributing generously to their learning environment. They proudly cheer each other on, lift each other up, and push each other forward.
I aspire to build a classroom filled with collaborative scholars that communicate ideas and knowledge through a process of problem solving where student thinking is a the center of instruction.
I can imagine the students using the easel requested in this project to present their mathematical ideas and ways of thinking for their classmates to learn from and try on as their own strategies.. The easel I am requesting in this project will provide the students with a surface to model their way of solving complex mathematical problems, and it will also give them a podium for the mathematical explanations they formulate.. Not only will this tool help them develop skills in presentation literacy, but it will also give them opportunities to see mathematical problems solved in a variety of ways, which will in turn help these complex ideas make more sense to them.
