Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in an area of low economic development. Over 90% of our students are growing up in poverty. Books and resources are scarce in their homes. But they come to school every day eager to learn and to apply their new skills.
My students love to learn and are full of questions about the world.
We read stories every day and one of my goals for them is to foster a passion for reading and for books. They love getting to know new characters and for many of them, it is their favorite part of the day. My students are the kindest, most curious, and fun class ever!
My Project
I am going to move up with my students next year to 2nd grade. We will be working on more challenging skills in math so we need some resources to practice with. We are requesting puzzles and games where the students can review their money counting abilities and addition/subtraction.
Workstations give our students hands-on practice with their math skills.
They think they are playing games but are in fact learning. We have time every day where the students can do workstations and practice what they are learning. During that time I work with students in small groups on their level and individualize their instruction.
We are facing budget cuts in our district more than ever before and it would be amazing to still be able to have the best resources for our kiddos to learn with.
