Math Wizards with Common Core

My Students

Our school is awesome. I have been there for about six years. The principal and the staff are great to work with. We all help each other in order to benefit students, so that they will increase their knowledge in many subject areas. The school the students attend is wonderful overall, it just lacks good materials. As an educator, I try to find what can be the best for my students. This year, I have 30 second graders. I teach English as a second language, language arts, math, and science. My students are all wonderful and eager to read magazines with current events. My students like and enjoy the Everyday Math program that we use every year. This program begins when students are in kindergarten. Now my students are in second grade, and the challenge is for the students to use activities to build on knowledge in difficult math concepts.

My Project

The learning centers will build students' skills in concepts of math. Students will be able to solve problems, record concepts, and explain their mathematical thinking. Hands-on activities are so important at this grade level. The centers will make difficult concepts in math easy to grasp. Having these materials, I will be able to make centers with a variety of puzzle games using important math concepts. All these materials are essential for keeping kids on the right track of learning. These materials will benefit my kids' learning, which is so important for me as an educator. The materials are advanced, because I have students who are high achievers and having these centers will help them progress more. The reusable pockets are good to have to keep materials in good condition.
