This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in the second smallest city in Los Angeles County. Our elementary school is 400 students strong. We have 1 percent African American and 98 percent Latinos. We have a 90 percent socioeconomically disadvantaged population and 4 percent foster youth. All of our students receive free lunch. Despite the many challenges they face, my students arrive every morning full of life, ready to learn, and excited to get started on our day. I do my best to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
Studies have shown that the effective use of manipulatives can help students connect ideas and integrate their knowledge so that they gain a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
Giant magnetic number bonds and ten frames from Lakeshore will not only entice my student to want to learn but they will also allow them to hone in on their mathematical thinking skills.
I want my students to develop a love and excitement for math and I know these tool will definitely bed a step in the right direction. I want them to see how important and useful Math is.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
