My Students

My classroom is located in Washington State at a Title I school.

Students at my school are hardworking, kind, eager individuals. Many students are first and second generation citizens from Africa, South America, and Asia. Our differing cultures, backgrounds, economic statuses, and languages provide richness in the classroom, but we also face challenges. One challenge is that we are incredibly underfunded. At HVES, 80-85% of students qualify for free and reduced school lunch. There are so many experiences and learning we wish we could have with our students if only we had the means.

My Project

A math teacher is someone who inspires their students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers. Currently, many of my schools 699 students are struggling to learn math. This can be attributed to those who are teaching math, rather than those students who are learning it. Math is my passion and as a lead math teacher at my school, I would love to spearhead professional development to help teachers grow in their ability to teach math.

With your help, I could get the professional development books into my school that would be so critical to helping teachers become better.

Students deserve qualified and educated teachers.

If we have better teachers we will see our students scores rise but even more importantly their understanding of math increase. Please help make better teachers so that students get a better education.
