My Students
My students are aspiring mathematicians! They look forward to Math Workshop and engaging in Math Centers every day! They are 23 students in a public school in Harlem, and come from families of differing ethnicities and socioeconomic status.
They enjoy using hands-on tools and manipulatives to make learning concepts fun!
During Math Workshop and Math Centers, children learn math concepts through inquiry and problem solving. These math tools will help strengthen their understanding of math ideas. Some important concepts include coin recognition, understanding addition concepts and regrouping.
My Project
Magnetic coins will help students to easily visualize and identify coins, such as a quarter versus a nickel. The base ten magnetic set will help my students keep track of the number of days we have been in school. Bins will be used to store math games, and allow for children to easily access materials for partner work during math centers. Clipboards will allow students the flexibility to document their work on the rug or any other comfortable area in the classroom while interacting with these math materials.
Students will gain a sense of ownership while being able to independently access these math tools.
