This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is dedicated to teaching everyone through project-based learning as a social justice educational tool. We are a progressive, public, charter school devoted to teaching every child the skills and concepts they need to be successful in our ever-changing world.
We have created engaging, interactive online learning but cannot replicate the materials and books we have in the classroom.
We serve a large Mexican American population as well as a diverse social-economic group of families in the North County San Diego area. Our students love to build and have a natural curiosity about the world around them. With a project-based learning approach, we attempt to build an engaging classroom, rich with materials and access to real tools and resources. This has been challenging in a distance learning program.
We do not receive as much funding as local public schools and do not burden our parents with expenses; therefore, we are responsible for our own classroom materials. Now we face a real challenge with our school buildings closed, and students learning at home.
My Project
Our school has been working so hard to provide a rich online learning experience, and finally we are opening our classrooms for in-person learning. Lots of our resources have been sent home to help students, especially for those families that cannot afford to pay for supplies.
Now that we are re-opening, we want to make sure we have lots of math learning tools for all of our students.
We have a lot of learning left this year, and sorely need these tools to ensure that every child maximizes their learning this year.
