My Students
These materials are for a wonderful group of 4th graders whom are excited about learning! They will be starting the year off from home and I want to make sure they have the materials and tools they need to be successful! My favorite part of teaching is helping my students develop a love for learning! Our school is amazing, and it is a very warm and inviting place. We have a wonderful community of teachers, parents, and students working hard every day to help everyone succeed.
My school has a very diverse population of students and families.
We are located in what some call a bedroom community, because parents work farther from home. Some of our students are low income, English Language Learners, come from single parent homes, or are living with other guardians. It can be challenging meeting the needs of the varying abilities and backgrounds of the students, but it is something I enjoy doing. I am looking to instill a love for learning in my students.
My Project
We will be starting our year off with distance learning. In order to help all my students be more successful with math, I am requesting tools that they can use at home. I will be putting together math kits for them that they can keep at home. Most students do not have a meter/yard stick at home and that seems to be an essential tool when doing the measurement unit. I am requesting protractors to help the students measure angles, place value disks, chips and desktop cards to help students understand place value from decimal to whole numbers. Students will use pattern blocks to help understand fractions and geometry. Finally, I would like for each student to have a whiteboard with a dry erase marker and eraser so that they can work on problems and practice different parts of math.

I think it is very important for students to do hands on activities when it comes to learning math. My goal in teaching math is to ignite a spark in my students. Many kids dislike math but I believe that is because they haven't had a teacher that made math fun and or interesting. Providing my students with tools they can use at home will hopefully help make math for accessible when doing distance learning.
