I currently teach a self-contained class in a Title I school. Funding is very limited and so are the materials. Many of my students are English Language Learners; many are special education, and most (approximately 90%) qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. These students come to school excited for learning and love to get their hands on anything that will help increase their learning. Many of my students go home to houses with little to no updated technology. All students are reading 2 years below grade level. Beyond these odds, my students work hard to achieve a level one status and are fabulous human beings. These students are excited to learn and absolutely love learning
The students have been showing growth with their work and feel so excited to continue to learn more.
My Project
Fractions is such a difficult topic to teach. Having visuals really help the children understand and visually see the fraction named. This helps them to make sense of the fraction size especially when comparing fractions sizes. Conversations cards will help us to promote more oral language in our classroom. This will help the students when they have to express their thoughts and hopefully feelings. Ten frames will help the students solve those addition and subtract problems. This is a great tool for the students because it will help them to see the problem and understand what it is asking them -- especially because now they can see it! Great tool for those problems that ask them how many more...........
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
