Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day I look out into a sea of eager, inquisitive faces and say, "Good Morning boys and girls." My twenty-two amazing, third graders attend a community public school and reside in a high poverty area located in Bronx, NY. In school, they are learning to have a growth mindset and to learn how to live with empathy, flexibility, resilience, persistence, and optimism.
School is their "home" and they come every day.
With the challenges they face, they enjoy reading chapter books, writing poetry and learning about science. They also love to build things and participate in art activities.
My Project
Math centers will give the students an opportunity to have hands-on learning and be engaged in what they are learning in math. Math centers are important as they provide targeted, meaningful practice. The centers will include a variety of activities differentiated to meet the needs of each learner. This will increase math skills and build on their learning. During a math lesson, I teach a whole class lesson and then students go into independent math groups. These centers will allow students to work independently on their math skills.
I am requesting flexible seating for students to sit comfortably in their groups.
The teaching tools I am requesting arrays, graphs, and regrouping chart will facilitate the whole class math lesson allowing students to understand mathematical concepts.
