My Students
Students walk into my classroom full of energy and ready to learn. Many of my students have challenges that stand in the way, making learning harder for them. I teach special education students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. My school is in an urban area with about 70% receiving free/reduced lunch. Since I teach special education, I need hands-on, engaging ways to teach my students the curriculum. My students come into my classroom for help, sometimes feeling hopeful but other times feeling like failures. Each of the students has different academic needs as well as different emotional needs.
My Project
The Osmo technology I am requesting will help my students better engage in math while working on an iPad. The Osmo pizza will help the students to practice real life money problems while adding and subtracting different toppings on pizza. The Osmo numbers will help the students become more fluent with addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Monster allows the students to draw objects and have the monster interact with the object.
Engaging in technology will allow my students to not only enjoy math but understand how math relates the everyday life.
Since my students struggle with math, having new ways to help improve their skills is always a must. Providing learning opportunities using the iPad and other technology shows my students that learning can be fun.
