Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Math is all around us, and what better way to learn than through games and various hands-on activities!
My first grade scholars are part of the NYC public school system, and live in a high poverty, multicultural community.
The majority of them live in shelters and come from low income families. For many of them, school is a small escape, where they can socialize with peers while learning the skills they need to succeed.
My Project
Through the games and resources requested, my students will be able to gain, practice and reinforce a variety of math topics. They will be able to engage in math rich discussions with peers, and have some fun while in the process of learning and expanding their understanding of the world of numbers.
Children learn in a variety of ways, and games help to aid their learning.
My young mathematicians do not have many math related games nor complete sets of manipulatives to work with, and would greatly benefit from the use of these resources.
