My students are fun loving, eager to learn children with special needs ranging in grades from kindergarten through first grade. They attend a K-1 self-contained Special Ed class in a public school in Queens.
My students are supported with hands-on activities and topics they enjoy.
They love to learn about animals, plants and the natural world.
Students often work in small groups to develop academic and social skills. They are learning to collaborate with their peers and share ideas and express themselves through learning experiences.
My Project
The ETA hand2mind Daily Math Fluency Kit will provide the visual and tactual resources for my studnets in K/1 to understand numbers, apply new skills and guide math discussions.
Our multi-grade classroom provides tactual-hands on experiences such as centers and manipulatives to understand and explain numbers.
This kit will support and facilitate discussion and understanding of math concepts.
Math will become "real" and purposeful when students can relate, apply and discuss math concepts. Class math talks are another valuable way to develop our language and social skills as we work together to understand new concepts through math in our classroom.
