Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have come quite a long way in varying aspects of the educational setting. By the end of the year, I would love for them to have hands on tools to supplement their acquisition of life skills. This is difficult to accomplish due to the limited amount of resources in my classroom.

My students are thirteen students with moderate intellectual disabilities in grades transitional kinder through second grade.

They are curious learners, always ready to explore new concepts. My students require high interest activities, high energy among staff, and will learn best with hands on tactile manipulatives. This school is within a low income community and thus resources are minimal at home. It is therefore my priority to provide an abundance of knowledge the best way I can with as many resources that I can, hich is why I am requesting materials to spike individual interest.

My Project

Students are on the alternate curriculum and it is a necessity to teach skills that will make them productive individuals in society. I am starting them at a young age to know concepts of time, learn how to identify, and use money. It is with these materials that they will get a better understanding of these concepts. I am also teaching them all about patterns and numbers. These too are essential math elements that are beneficial to learn starting at a young age. I will use these materials within small math group instruction with myself and aides.

This project will make a dramatic influence on having my students acquire mathematical concepts.

It is true that students learn best when they are having fun. These materials will provide them with just that. Having a real life working register to add to our in class market and toy store will only have them experience money like in the real life world. Exposure is key and I plan to expose them the best I can with the help of donations to make a drastic change in their quality of life.
