Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diverse learners that struggle with basic math concepts. They require supplemental resources to build their confidence with math skills. By securing these resources, the students will have a variety of hands on materials that will support their individual learning styles and needs.

The students are diverse learners in grades K-2.

They struggle to demonstrate grade level math abilities. They are in need of additional resources that can support their individual needs when it comes to mathematical skills. Our school is located in the City of Chicago. Resources for additional materials have been cut significantly. We face an uncertain amount of budget cuts in the future. Our students have continued to work hard towards success despite these setbacks. Without additional funds for materials, our diverse learners are often left without supplemental materials that are essential for student success. The students require instructional support and opportunities to grow based on individual progress. These resources would benefit the students and provide for increased success in math.

My Project

The requested materials will help to differentiate instruction. My students are visual and tactile learners. They benefit from having a high amount of visual support with materials that provide them the opportunity to use a hands on approach to learning. All of the materials will be used for one on one instruction as well as during small group and center work. The Addition and Subtraction Math Tower games will provide an opportunity for students to get excited about increasing math fact fluency. The Number and Counting Activity Tin as well as the Sea Horse activity center will give a hands on approach to increasing number identification, representing quantities and rote counting skills for students needing support with number sense. The Hands on Regrouping Kit will be beneficial in supporting students that often struggle with 2 and 3 digit subtraction skills. All of the resources are highly beneficial to the diverse learners when grade level work tends to be overwhelming for them.

With these materials the students will have opportunities to show progress and build confidence in their math skills.

They will increase their ability to perform grade level math tasks in a way that best suits their individualized learning preferences and needs. As their ability to perform math tasks increases, so will their confidence. These materials are essential to building a math foundation and will continue to help them meet their individual needs.
