My Students
Imagine trying to teach kindergarten students addition and subtraction skills. In my years of teaching, I have learned it is best to teach them in small group settings to ensure they are all on task. With math, the best way to learn is through LOTS of practice.
My students are fun, expressive children who come from all types of social and economic backgrounds.
They love games and anything that allows them to move. We are the only section of full day kindergarten at our school so I have the opportunity to expand their academics by planning more time consuming activities.
My Project
I developed a "Math Station" system in my room to give my students time to practice math skills. I have 9 units with the last two being addition then subtraction. I have 12 tubs for each unit with a variety of activities for each unit. I break them into partners and they take their tub to a spot in the room to practice the skill with the materials that are in the tub. I need some durable, engaging math fact materials like the Learning Locks, Instant Math Centers, and Fluency Puzzles to complete my last 2 units.
Our class needs more exciting ways to teach those key math concepts that are so important during the early years.
Having games and hands-on materials in the classroom helps grab their attention in this ever evolving world
