Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a resource teacher who has worked with multiple grade levels over my career, I can see a clear trend. Those who struggle in Algebra classes at the high school level are often the students who did not learn foundational math skills in elementary school.
To support my students and address these gaps, I am requesting math manipulatives that will transform our lessons into interactive, engaging, and effective learning experiences.
One of the key skills they miss is basic geometry skills as well as the practical use of money. I want my elementary school students to get a full understanding and deep relationship with geometry and money to help with their long-term math success.
The items I hope to acquire include:
Geometric shape sets: Tools to help students understand shapes, angles, and spatial relationships.
Base-ten blocks and place value mats: To strengthen number sense and operations.
Money manipulatives: Coins, bills, and cash registers
Fraction circles and bars: To visualize part-whole relationships.
Math games and puzzles: To build problem-solving skills and make learning fun.
These manipulatives will provide my students with the hands-on experiences they need to understand math concepts that might otherwise feel abstract or out of reach. The resources will also foster their confidence and encourage them to see themselves as capable mathematicians.
