My Students
I teach mathematics to an amazing group of approximately one hundred, diverse, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at an urban middle school. The majority of my students receive reduced-price or free lunch.
All of my students struggle with math.
They are placed with me because they need math remediation and extra support. My goal is to not only bring them up to grade level but to instill a curiosity and love of problem-solving. Math should be fun.
My Project
My job as the math intervention teacher is to help all my students move onto grade level in math. To do this, my students need to feel successful and find math fun. I do not have a set curriculum to follow and I love the flexibility of using a variety of sources to build my lessons. Weekly, I find myself on the website Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) searching for ways to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade mathematics in an engaging and fun way. The lessons on this website are created by other math teachers for math teachers. I typically look for simple guided notes and then practice problems. I am partial to practice problems that involve solving riddles, mazes, coloring, station or group work, and escape rooms.
I would like help purchasing engaging lessons on TPT so my husband gets some credit card relief from all my curriculum purchases.
I have almost 1400 resources from TPT. Fortunately, many of these were free. I will admit, I spend hundreds of dollars each year on my curriculum. A gift card to TPT would allow me more freedom in purchasing unique lessons that my kids will enjoy. I want my students to find success in math and engagement is always key.
