Math + Science = Success! But We Need Basic Supplies First..
My students need 45 calculators, dice, a money kit, 15 decks of cards, Algebra puzzles, 3 Fence It In games, and one set of nature blocks to start the new school year.

My Students
This year, 6th grade math has been added to my course load, which is AWESOME! What isn't so awesome is that there are very few math supplies available in our school. We can improvise in some places, but without basics like calculators or dice, my students are at a huge disadvantage!
I teach 6th grade at a high poverty, Title I school that serves students in kindergarten through 8th grade.
85% of our students are on free and reduced lunch, and we are incredibly diverse with over 30 languages spoken on our campus. Every year, I have so many different learning styles I need to accommodate (particularly ADHD and special education). I love to provide opportunities for hands-on learning, but with class sizes increasing and lack of funding, we don't have enough basic supplies.
My Project
I've taught science for several years and I have a ton of great materials that can be incorporated into my new math classes. We will be looking at how scientists and mathematicians problem-solve real life skills on a regular basis. I am requesting basic materials that I think we would all consider necessary for a math class: calculators, dice, play money, decks of cards, etc. Our students rely on the school for basic needs, such as breakfast/lunch, school supplies, and health care. Because resources cover many basic needs, we are not able to purchase these classroom essentials. This year, my students will be starting fundamental units (Algebra, Geometry, etc) and they need proper supplies to get hands-on and real life learning experiences.
My students may be needy, but the culture of our school is about giving back.
Every year I have students who love to stay after school or come in during the summer to help clean and organize because our school provides so many things for them. By giving to this project, you not only support higher math achievement within an extremely diverse population, but you continue a trend of giving that my students appreciate everyday, and they give back in the ways that they can.
