This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A large portion of my students have been negatively impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As our community continues to rebuild, I want to do my best to ensure that my students aren't left behind. Our elementary school is home to a diverse population of students. I love that most students have gone through at least 5 years of the Leader in Me program. Due to STAAR testing and district benchmarks, it is a harsh reality that science isn't prioritized in the lower primary grades. However, I do my best to nurture my students' genuine enthusiasm for STEM and a love of hands-on scientific inquiry when they finally get to fifth grade.

I feel blessed whenever I get to witness my students' faces light up as they make connections in their minds and are finally able to give a name to some of the experiences they have had with the natural world as a result of our labs and projects!

My Project

As an educator, I can see the significance of having students feel comfortable while they work. This past year has created a huge level of anxiety for them so I would like to offer my amazing students the ability to have flexible seating. They can grab their cushion and sit anywhere in the classroom that they would like!

Imagine the possibilities!

If I can have flexible seating as well as a fan that focuses on keeping my classroom clean and comfortable, my students will love coming to school to learn.
