My students need hands-on math manipulative's in order to help them learn their math concepts, and larger calculators with bigger buttons and easier to see displays.
Being quiet, sitting still, listening, and being focused are not some of the things you will see in my classroom. My students have special needs ,and they require special classroom materials in order to be successful.
My Special Needs Students are smart, loving, and eager to learn, they just need the right manipulatives to assist them in their learning.
The disabilities in my classroom include: Downs Syndrome, Deafness, Autism, and Other Health Impaired. No matter what the disability, my students greet me everyday with a smile on their face, a high 5, or a hug. My students love to learn about new things especially when they can learn it hands-on. Most of the time, hands-on is the only way my students understand a concept. This is why hands-on manipulatives are very important for my classroom.
My Project
The materials will be used for math. The sorting, patterning, and graphing trays will assist my students with the hands on activities they need to be successful. My students will be able to physically pick up the pieces and manipulate them in order to understand the concept. I have students who are visually impaired or have physical limitations and require the use of larger calculators. The calculators I am requesting will assist them with their needs. They will be so excited to see the new materials they can use with their work. With the magnetic blocks and fractions, my students will be able to learn about place value and fractions in a whole new way.
Math is something we all use everyday, even those individuals with disabilities.
Understanding patterns, fractions, how to use a calculator are just a few of the ways these materials will improve my classroom. My students love math and enjoy learning new concepts. I love teaching my students a math concept and using it in everyday life with them. We use fractions in cooking. My students enjoy seeing that connection to a very important life skill. Thank you
