My students need math manipulatives to understand algebra. My students need challenging reading material for higher level thinking in Reading, Writing and Language class.
Remember your curiosity as a child? Wasn't it an amazing feeling to discover and learn new things? These are the things my students in class are experiencing each day. Learning comes alive for them and they discover new ideas that they can share with each other, their family and their friends.
Our school is a Title 1 school with children from a variety of cultural backgrounds as well as social economical needs.
Our gifted and talented program is currently working without a budget. My students come into my classroom eager to learn and try new out-of-the-box activities. Students come from several classes and different grade levels. My students are highly gifted and include autistic students as well as twice exceptional students. They are highly motivated and love to explore and learn new things. In our classroom, we work together in small groups, individually and as a whole group. Students crave to discover new and exciting things in Reading, Writing, and Math.
My Project
The Algebra Tiles will provide a solid foundation in solving equations and verbal word problems. The Algebra Tiles will be a powerful whole-brain instruction approach that will help students build their algebraic thinking. It gives students a hands-on approach to learning Algebra. It will help me meet their intellectual needs as well as their socially and emotional needs.
The Scope magazines will help our class meet most of our important English Language Arts objectives with engaging multi-genre content, rich skill-building support material, and thrilling videos. Scope will challenge my students beyond their grade level to keep them motivated and encourage them to continue learning at their highest potential.
As Walt Disney would say "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

If my students can continue to learn new things and be challenged in new things, then these experiences will help shape their lives and build new leaders for our future.
