My Students

Every year presents its own sets of challenges and obstacles. Being at a school where many students come from low-income, working families, it is my goal each year to make sure all of my students feel loved and welcomed in my room and provide support for them. Each year, the students become "my kids" (that is how they are referred to when I talk about them to my friends and family), and we quickly build a strong, tight-knit family. I spend a lot of my time getting to know students from other classrooms as well so that they know they are loved and can feel safe and protected.

I can't control what my students go home to but I can and do control the time that they are with me each day.

As a school, we are providing them with rigorous instruction to ensure they are college and career ready.

My students all try their best and want to do well in school and have high aspirations to achieve greatness. They are all unique and special in their own way. I look forward each day to spending the day with them and embarking on their educational journeys.

My Project

Since my kids are now learning distantly, they are on their Chromebooks and using technology for a majority of their day. I want to ensure their eyes are protected and prevent health issues due to prolonged view of the computer screen.

The blue light glasses will ensure the kids' eyes are protected while learning distantly on the computer.

The hundreds charts will be used by all of the first graders at my site as a resource to help during math instruction. It gives them the visual to use while at home and practice their numbers. The back offers ten frames and a number line as other strategies the kids can use during live lessons as well as completing their assigned independent tasks. This will give them another tool to use when adding and subtracting.
