This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am gearing my students for career readiness and what a better way then to get them to start being comfortable working with a group and sharing their ideas. Everyone has that office image of someone writing something out for a group and I want to provide that for my students.
We have a great group of students that are motivated to learn and to share their ideas.
Unfortunately they come from low income families where supplies and money are not abundant but that does not get them down. Most of the students are Hispanic and African American with great pride in their culture and city.
My Project
Our new math curriculum has students presenting their work, ideas, and thought process, not only just the math. They work in groups to solve their problems but they must be able to share and present to the group. They will learn to work in groups, process information that their peers present to them, and articulate their math understanding. The hooks will hold the charts in place so their work and ideas will be visible at all times. The chart markers will allow them to record their ideas. Finally the post it chart paper will allow them to move their work to a different location if necessary.
With the donation of these materials my students will be able to become familiar with presenting their ideas to their peers.
They will be able to gain insight on how others solve problems. It is great for visual learners and gives everyone the opportunity to share something. Finally they will get used to using charts, working with groups, and hopefully have an insight to what groups can do when they work together.
