My Students

The first graders at my school are wonderful. They are full of life and have an excitement for learning that is infectious. Their minds are literally like sponges as they absorb new things each day. In general, they come from a lower socioeconomic demographic, and they are easily pleased and grateful for simple things.

I am so lucky to work with this incredible group of first graders, and I love that they are kind, resilient, loving, and diverse in their needs and interests.

There are many in my class who struggle with math facts, and they need fun and creative ways to help them learn their facts and to know them with automaticity.

My Project

Math facts memorization is difficult for many of my students. Students have so many different learning styles and ways that they effectively retain information. It is important to provide students with many ways to learn math facts, and I would like to do just that.

A variety of math games and resources that reflect different learning styles will help all of my students to find an effective way to make math facts automatic for them.

Going fishing for math facts, building math problems with manipulatives, using a magic light pen, and learning math facts while playing dominoes are a few ways that will lend variety and student engagement to math instruction in my classroom.
