Math Necessities - Making It in the Math Classroom

My Students

Our school in Savannah Georgia is bursting with creative, fun-loving, full of life, and inventive students. Learning, growing, and laughing with them every day is what makes me love my job! It is a challenging task to engage, motivate, and encourage these kids to see math as important and useful in their daily lives. By providing them with meaningful and dynamic lessons that will excite them and encourage them, I will be able to teach grit and perseverance while attacking real-life mathematical problems.

My Project

Giving students instant feedback on the most challenging math concepts is critical. The use of whiteboards is an almost daily activity in my classroom. By grouping the students, I am able to work with 8 to 10 kids at a time. Personal whiteboards coupled with calculators allow me to see their process and exactly where they are making mistakes. By giving kids the instant feedback and direct instruction as they work and providing them an easy place to show and share their work, students are motivated and encouraged to become confidant, successful mathematicians. By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student involvement, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
