Math Modeling Is Fun!

My students need dry erase surfaces to individually model math problems.

My Students

100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch and many take home a weekend backpack. We have a clothes closet that provides not only emergency clothes, but winter coats. Many of our students come from homes where their parents do not have the educational background to support them with their home learning. Some have never used pencil's crayons, or scissors.

While we do a great job sharing, it is great to have our own tools to work with to enhance multi-sensory learning.

We are an arts magnet school and we enjoy incorporating the arts into our lessons. Our students love to explore color, texture, movement, and music.

My Project

4th grade Common Core math is all about making models to demonstrate number sense comprehension. The see-through dry erase pockets are so exciting as each student can have their instruction scaffolded with a slide-in graphic organizers; number lines, centimeter grids, fraction and decimal grids, partial quotient boxes. Mistakes can be quickly fixed. As students are able to draw the models without support the support graphic organizers can be removed.

Each individual student can show me their work by raising their boards allowing me quick assessment of skill comprehension.

I can quickly ask questions and make suggestions to individuals or the entire class. Marker color options will allow for clear steps in the process delineation and make leaning fun and easy to share with others.

These pockets will also provide great learning center organizers.
