Help me give my students dry-erase tables for math class! The best way to learn is though making mistakes! Approved school vendors do not supply white board tables, and the tables in my classroom are on their last legs.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are highly motivated and many graduates are thriving in STEM degrees/careers. Our students are not scared to make mistakes! A big part of why they don't have "math-phobia" is because of the tables in our math classrooms having whiteboards to try problems, make mistakes, and visualize their learning. The tables in room 110 are more than 10 years old and falling apart (literally the legs are falling off). They have layers of dry erase paint and are heavily stained. We cannot get new whiteboard tables since they are not supplied through the department of education supplier, and it might be years before even new regular tables are purchased in the budget.
We want to continue the legacy of these students in East Harlem engaging with math in a productive and meaningful way and these tables will help supply them with an environment conducive to real growth.
Students will continue to evolve as mathematicians because fluency, creativity, and growth will be at their fingertips throughout every lesson.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
