This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want to make math miracles happen this year with all of my students but especially with my special needs (IEP), Dyslexic, 504, and emergent bilingual students. I am a math teacher for a middle school, and I serve 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. My goal is to see growth in at least one or two grade levels for each student. With the products I chose, I intend to provide multiple fun and engaging activities and allow my students the opportunity to learn critical skills through different media.
Most of my students are well below their current grade level.
That means basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are still issues, as well as fluently understanding fractions. Therefore, I have included some activities that are elementary level. For example, “Fraction War” provides pictorial models as well as the fraction, so students are able to see, and not have to imagine, the image equivalent of a fraction. The idea behind this is to work at their level and encourage them to work towards their grade level.
Along with the math activities, I am also requesting a laptop so that I am able to move around the room with my computer. This will allow me to monitor students and see their results in real time. A standing desk will provide my ADHD students the option to stand while working, and a set of headphones will allow students to hear questions read orally to them.
