My Project
With the roll out of our district’s new math curriculum, our instructional focus has shifted toward introducing mathematical ideas through rich, inquiry-based tasks. This approach promotes deep comprehension and encourages students to take ownership of their thinking by exploring multiple strategies and learning from one another.
Whiteboards will be used by Fourth Grade STEM partners to collaboratively model, test, and revise math strategies during hands-on problem-solving tasks, fostering communication, confidence, and a deeper understanding of math concepts, as well as representing conceptual models.
Students flourish in classrooms that invite them to express ideas, experiment with solutions, and engage in meaningful dialogue. Tools such as dry-erase boards and erasers offer a safe space for students to try, revise, and refine their thinking—promoting confidence and resilience in problem-solving.
To fully support this shift, we are seeking materials that promote small-group collaboration and hands-on learning. Manipulatives, math tools, and visual models will empower students to work together to tackle complex problems, build conceptual understanding, and explain their reasoning with clarity.
I’ve observed firsthand how powerful collaboration can be—when students work in teams, they are more focused, motivated, and successful. They challenge and support each other, and their academic growth is significantly enhanced compared to when they are working in isolation.
This grant will help us create an environment where STEM thinking thrives—where students engage actively, collaborate effectively, and build the critical math and teamwork skills they need for future success.
