Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title One school and has over sixteen different languages spoken and seventy-four percent of the students are "at-risk" of educational failure. They come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 84.1% of our students receiving free and reduced lunch.

Students in my class learn through non-traditional teaching methods.

Most of them are digital natives. Their materials need to be engaging and allow my students' spatial awareness to stay on task. My students vary from limited verbal skills or who are ESL.

My Project

Centers, by design, are meant to be independent work stations where teacher involvement is not required. During this time, teachers are often meeting with small guided reading groups during this time. To become independent learners, students must know how to locate and utilize learning materials on their own. I picked the following materials with my individual student's learning needs in mind.

These materials will help my students learn difficult Math concepts; teach them to become problem-solvers like real mathematician, and boost their math skills independently.

The Place Value Folder Game library features 10 different games that target key math standards—including identifying place value, rounding numbers, recognizing numbers in word form and more—so children get the practice they need to really master place value skills. While, the Time & Measurement Folder Game Library—includes telling time, creating graphs, comparing lengths and more. Students get the practice they need to really master time and measurement skills. I also want to purchase The Math Instant Learning Centers which includes Problem Solving Instant Learning Center, Addition & Subtraction Strategies Instant Learning Center and the Number Sense Instant Learning Center. These centers will provide my students meaningful problem solving practice, develop addition and subtraction strategies, and develop their number sense —with an independent learning center that builds skills at just the right pace. Lastly, the privacy partition, fold and go rolling cart will keep supplies, books and learning materials organized and accessible for the students.
