My students need alphabet magnets, shapes, counting centers and games for fun ways to learn their numbers and shapes as well as blank journals for a place to write about math and make pictures of what they are learning.
My kindergarteners are having trouble learning their numbers and shapes. Math is a frustrating time if you aren't able to recognize numbers & count. Some of these kids are just learning English. With fun, hands on materials to work with, kids will be able to be more focused and excited to learn.
I have a fabulous group of five and six year olds that are very diverse in ethnicity as well as ability.
Our school has around 80 percent free and reduced lunch and are a Title One School. They are excited and eager to learn. Being in a school setting is still a very new concept to most so they are still getting used to what school is all about.
My Project
Having almost half of my class English Language Learners, these resources will help them have an opportunity to have hands on experiences to help them learn their numbers. These resources not only have visual benefits but also tactile so the kids can feel what the numbers shapes are supposed to be. These writing journals will be a way to look at the progress through the year with their math concepts as well as writing. Some of these kids don't have the opportunity to get extra practice at home so it is essential to use every minute of our day to the fullest. Having large pattern block shapes and numbers that I can use on the board in front of the class will be great for introducing and teaching lessons that everyone can see. The kids will be excited to use them as well.
Having the ability to recognize, count and write numbers is critical to being successful in school.
With these resources my kindergarten students will be on their way to a successful beginning to their school career.
