Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an inner city second grade teacher in Illinois. I am privileged to work with my students; however some of my students lack resources at home for reinforcement in the skills they learned at school because they come from low economic status households, but all of my students enjoy learning.
When going over basic math concepts, I found my students vary in levels. Also, I found my students learn in different ways. So, I work in small groups. Learning Centers would be helpful for the students in small groups. Learning Centers are areas of the classroom focused on different activities for different academic areas. The learning centers will help because they will serve as an excellent way to cover a wide amount of curriculum while effectively addressing the individual needs of each of my students.
To ensure I can provide all my students to an effective and differentiated instruction, I need assistance with resources. I am requesting for my students Elementary Math Instant Learning Centers-Complete Set and easel chart paper for them to use during learning centers. These learning centers will build on skills being taught in a fun educational way and differentiate to ensure all students’ needs are being met. They will have a new love for math because the learning centers will open their eyes that math can be fun and they can use it in the real world. The centers use dry erase markers so they can be used by future students.
By helping students have a greater joy for math, you are helping our future have a desire to maybe one day become mathematicians.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
