My students need a teaching clock, a big demonstration clock, calculators, a giant calculator, paper money, and money equivalency puzzles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second year teacher with a special education (bilingual) second grade class. I teach at a high-needs community public school in the Bronx, NY.
Donor,
My students have some difficulty grasping certain math concepts, such as time, money, and calculations. I would love to have materials to help them overcome their obstacles when it comes to mathematics.
I am requesting a teaching clock and a big demonstration clock so that the children can actually see what I do when I am teaching. All I have right now is a clock made out of felt that does not move like a real clock would. It is difficult to show them the change from 3:45 to 4:30 PM for example, because if I move the minute hand, the hour hand will not move and vice versa.
The calculators I am requesting will be used to show the students how to use a calculator (this is part of their math curriculum, but they did not include calculators in the kit). The giant calculator will allow me to demonstrate what I would like them to do in front of the class.
Money is a BIG problem for my class. They are having real difficulties grasping money equivalencies, for example, 10 pennies, 2 nickels OR 1 dime all equal the same thing. This is why I am requesting magnetic big money, money equivalency puzzles and paper money. The magnetic money will be great because I can put up coins on the wall and have the children work out problems as I am watching. This way I can review with the whole class at one time. My class does not have any realistic looking paper money.
These materials would really help my budding mathematicians to get a better grasp on the concepts we are covering this year. It would help so much to have the larger materials (i.e. giant calculator and clock) because they will be able to see what I am doing as I explain the lessons to them. Your support will really help these students with their basic math skills.
Thank you!
