My students need math manipulatives, including puzzles, Hands-On Problem Solving Centers and a Time & Measurement Activity Station. Manipulatives and alternate math materials are helpful to my students because they help make math visual.
Many of my students are hands-on and visual learners. I want to be able to provide them the materials that will help them be successful in learning math skills.
My students are amazing and are constantly working hard to do their best.
I work with students with varying abilities of autism. They attend a high-poverty school where many students are transient, have uncertain home situations, and come from single-parent families.
Many times school is the most consistent piece of their day. They are constantly working to remain regulated, be engaged with learning, and interact with others. They come to school everyday hoping to be safe, happy, content, and smart! Each day I am amazed by them.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to build basic skills in the area of math. The three different levels of money puzzles will help students at all levels learn the important functional skills of counting and making change. They will also have materials to work on skills such as time, measurement, addition, subtraction, and problem solving.
These activities will easily become preferred work tasks for my students.
It will allow them to want to work and learn. They are going to be so excited to use these materials in our room they'll forget they are working on academic tasks!
