My students need more materials to use during our 90-minute math block each day.

My Students
My school is a neighborhood public school, and part of the Turnaround Network in the School District of Philadelphia. 100% of my students are economically disadvantaged. 92% of students at my school are black, and the remaining 8% are multi-racial. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school daily.
My students love to learn.
It does not matter if we're learning literacy, math, science, or social studies, they are always eager to hear something new. My goal is to ensure that this learning happens!
My Project
I am a 2017 Teach For America Corps member, teaching at a public school in West Philadelphia. I teach a wonderful group of 2nd graders who are so eager to learn more, especially during math. We work on a 90-minute math block each day, consisting of direct instruction, small group interventions, centers, guided practice, and individual work time. Every Tuesday, I meet with my grade partners, instructional coaches, and admin to look over data from the previous week. We use this to guide instruction for the following week, to ensure that at least 80% of students are performing on grade-level.
To put it simply, my students need more- and they deserve more.
Each student uses an online program called I-Ready for 90 minutes each week (45 literacy, 45 math). This program is tailored to fit their specific learning needs. We are in need of earphones so that while working on that, the noises do not distract my other students in centers or at my small group table. My students would greatly benefit from more math manipulatives. As 2nd graders, they require a lot of visuals when learning math. Dice, chips, cards, hundreds charts, and cubes would help my students during direct instruction, guided practice, and center work.
Any donation big or small will be appreciated, not only by me, but by my class of 2nd grade young scholars. Together, let's see just how much we can help them grow.
