I teach a group of highly motivated and diverse learners at a Title I elementary school. My class is an enrichment classroom with accelerated learning opportunities for my 21 high-performing scholars. These students are talented readers and enjoy challenging and above grade-level work. This year, these students will be learning grade standards but will have many opportunities to interact with text and tasks that extend beyond grade-level requirements.
When I raise the bar, my students always rise to the occasion.
My Project
My students are CRAZY about math. If you walk by my classroom during a math lesson, you will likely hear a lot of yelling...but no one is misbehaving! My class loves solving challenging problems and they can't help but explode into cheers and celebrations when they've mastered another difficult skill.
Telling time, working with money, multiplying, and geometric skills are crucial math skills that directly relate to being a successful adult.
Unfortunately, these skills are often taught in isolated units where students don't have lasting practice throughout the year. My goal is to update my math centers to include these activities that specifically give students extra practice with working on money, and time.
Additionally, even though multiplication is not taught in 2nd grade, the vast majority of my students are already multiplying and I would love to enrich their learning with some multiplication activities. I also want to offer the Magna Tiles for indoor recess/free time so students can practice their STEM engineering skills.
Your support of this project could really help us finish out this school year with some exciting and engaging new activities!
