My Project
This project is inspired by my students who are working above grade level in math. In 2nd grade, we don't teach multiplication. We cover topics such as using arrays to teach repeated addition, skip counting, fluency within 20, adding and subtracting up to 1000, and telling time to the nearest 5 minutes. Those aren't all of the topics of course, but some of the most crucial ones. I have many resources to cover our main 2nd grade math standards, but I want to provide additional resources for the students who are mastering the grade level topics and are ready for the next challenge.
With this project, my students who are working above grade level will be provided materials, including multiplication workbooks, to begin to learn their multiplication facts.
Learning multiplication is a huge step in a child's education. Starting in third grade in North Carolina, students will cover multiplication in their curriculum. Mastering their multiplication facts as soon as possible will be a huge help, not just for third-grade math, but in general. This is a really special group of kids! They are creative, critical thinkers, and have a huge desire to learn! I want to continue to help them grow this year in many ways. I want to help challenge my students who are ready to learn multiplication by providing them with workbooks for home, in order to make learning these facts fun and meaningful. The students would be able to use these resources at home and with me in the classroom. I am also requesting a few handwriting books for the kids that need the extra practice still this year. I am also requesting multiplication flash cards and "wrap ups" to build their math success in a fun way, no matter where they are
