This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in Staten Island, NY. This year I have an ICT class. Which means half of my class has IEPs. In addition many of my students are also English Language Learners. My students are hard workers who truly push themselves to do their very best. However, often they don't have all the supplies and materials they need to succeed in school. Due to budget cuts, my school is not always able to provide classrooms with extras, but I want my students to have it all.
My Project
My students learn best when learning is hands-on. I am requesting Cuisenaire Rods so my students can use manipulatives to understand concepts in math rather than just doing computations and workbook pages. My students have IEPs and have various individual learning needs. Cuisenaire rods and color pencils will not only motivate my students but will also help with differentiation. Studies prove that hands-on learning is the best way for students to not only to learn new material but also to retain new information.
The ink for our printer will help to track our students' learning.
Many of our students require a year-long portfolio to get promoted to Junior High School. We are required to print many resources and activities to aid our students throughout the school year.
