I currently teach a self-contained class in a Title I school. Funding is very limited and so are the materials. Many of my students are English Language Learners; many are special education, and most (approximately 90%) qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. These students come to school excited for learning and love to get their hands on anything that will help increase their learning. Many of my students go home to houses with little to no updated technology. All students are reading 2 years below grade level. Beyond these odds, my students work hard to achieve a level one status and are fabulous human beings. These students are excited to learn and absolutely love learning
The students have been showing growth with their work and feel so excited to continue to learn more.
My Project
How perfect would it be if all students had their own manipulatives to help them learn and to see the process right in front of them. I am asking for dice, two-color counters and multilink cubes so my students can practice their math skills.
My students will learn best when these tools are used in all lessons.
The requested visual trackers will help students with eye movement and coordination ability while reading. Plus when a child has trouble with visual tracking it typically results in behaviors that usually involve skipping lines when reading and copying which can lead to reduced reading skill. Keeping children up to date with current events is also very important so i am requesting subscriptions to TIME for Kids. This magazine format will help my students engage in what is going on in the world around them.
