Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the proud teacher of an ASD (autism spectrum disorder) classroom, where only two of my students are diagnosed with autism and the rest have been classified with other disabilities LD (learning disabled), ID (intellectual disabled), AD/HD, and behavioral issues. However, regardless of their disabilities, classifications, and issues, they are all extra special to me because during school hours they are my kids. I always said, "I didn't choose to teach, teaching chose me" because this is my second career. I chose to go back to school to be a Special Education Teacher. Every year, I have been working with very limited resources but this particular year, when I started, our classroom had nothing. I have been working with leftover materials, things I collected from other classrooms, etc. we need your help.
My Project
Having student that need modeling prompts and cues to be able to grasp new concepts, require me to use several ways to teach them, visuals and manipulatives are essential in my class. They will benefit from hands-on activities more than lectures and other types of traditional teaching. Projects, journals, and pretend play is a must, mostly during math lessons. My students might not be able to remember a teacher oriented math lesson but they will remember a game we played, where they have to use a dice and have to add to win.
