This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a specialist at my school, I am blessed to be able to interact with dozens of different groups of students throughout the day. My students come from all different walks of life and make up a very diverse student body. They enjoy school and for many of them, school is the best hours of their day. Despite the many personal challenges they experience on a daily basis, my students show up each day with the hopes to accomplish great things. My students accept challenges and strive to rise to their teacher's expectations.
I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.
My students often face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive to school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part, as student and teacher work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. We set high expectations for ourselves and for our students. We learn from one another and work to make a difference in our community.
My Project
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of basic math concepts. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them a hands-on learning experience. I am a special education teacher of K-8th graders at a Title I school in Nevada. A high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes. Students come to my class with work from their math classes, I have requested math activities and games for my students because they will use math every day for the rest of their lives. When you have a severe disability math can be a hard concept to learn without hands-on manipulatives and activities. Using a hands-on approach to teach math allows a student to see how the problems work. Manipulatives and games would make learning enjoyable for my students. Teaching the fundamental math skills at an early age will help my students be successful in math throughout their life.
