Math Manipulative Toolboxes Make Learning More Concrete!

Help me give my students Math Manipulative Tool Boxes for Distance Learning and independent learning when we are able to return to the classroom.

My Students

Hidden Valley is a very diverse school. We have almost 900 students serving many different populations.

In August, I will have a class full of excited 1st graders who will be eager to begin a new school year with 100% distance learning!

We will hopefully begin in-person learning as soon as it is safe to do so. I will be doing everything in my power to provide my new little students with an engaging, loving and rigorous learning environment that will support emotional and academic success. Many of my students will not have the necessary tools needed at home to be successful with distance learning. It is my hope that together with DonorsChoose, we can provide the necessary tools for the students' learning at home that they can also use independently when they return back to the classroom.

My Project

These math manipulative toolboxes will be used both at home for 100% distance learning as well as learning in the classroom. Young children are very concrete learners. They can reason about real objects, but they have trouble thinking abstractly about numbers.

Manipulatives provide the hands-on materials that help students understand math and make math more engaging and fun!

The materials in the kits will be used for making patterns, visually acting out word problems, building numbers, comparing numbers, practicing math vocabulary, learning early measurement units, and much more! Giving each student their own math manipulative kit will provide all my young students the same opportunity to learn in an interactive and concrete way both at home and in school.
