The infamous Mickey Mouse said, "Arithmetic is being able to count to twenty without taking off your shoes." I teach first grade, and my students always tell me, "I don't have enough fingers!" Join me and help my students discover there are many ways to do math without using their phalanges.
My students come from various backgrounds, which makes their educational needs very diverse.
The key to creating a firm educational foundation is to grasp key concepts in the first few years of a child's academic career. In a class of 19 students, they have undergone a change in teacher halfway through the year at a brand new school. They are eager to learn and learn at different paces and levels. Their learning styles include visual, hands-on, independent, and group work.
Most of my students haven't been in a classroom till this school year and are still learning how school works. They love to be shown different ways to solve problems and get excited when trying new things. I believe my students will benefit from being exposed to various math manipulatives, finding fun in mathematics, and learning new things.
My Project
Small groups are a vital part of our day in a first-grade classroom. The manipulatives and supplies I'm requesting will help my students see numbers in multiple ways. They will create engaging and exciting centers and small group work. Students will use the manipulatives to help them count and enjoy math while meeting their different learning styles. In addition, the color printer and laminator will be used to help engage students in colorful centers instead of basic worksheets.
First graders need engaging and fun activities to keep their focus.
You can help my students find different ways to do mathematics by donating to our project. Students will use the manipulatives to gain knowledge and make math fun again. The various materials will also help my students on different levels.
The supplies I'm requesting will help with addition, subtraction, telling time, place value, and more. The materials will be used to create exciting and long-lasting small group centers to use for the rest of the year.
