Math Manipulative: Fuel Your School

My students need math manipulative, such as dice, measurement tools and geometric tapes, to use during differentiated centers.

My Students

I would like to use this grant to purchase manipulatives for differentiated math centers. Differentiated math centers provide opportunities for students to be exposed to the curriculum in different ways using a variety of different activities. The students learn best when using hands-on materials.

What better way to involve students in learning math than engaging them in playing math centers and games?

All of my students are in walking distance of the school. I have 23% of my students who are at or below benchmark and 77% who are above benchmark. With these manipulatives, a student who tested proficient on the math topic benefits because he/she is able to expand upon their knowledge. Also a student who is not proficient needs reteaching and hands-on materials are great to use when reteaching a topic. In addition, I would use the manipulatives to engage my advanced students. One set of materials can be used for both my struggling and advanced students.

My Project

This project enhances students exposure to the math common core because it guarantees the curriculum to all students. These manipulatives, such as dice, measurement tools and geometric tapes, will be used to make a dozen or more center activities in my classroom. My students love to learn math with a hands-on approach. Math is a skill that is needed not just in second grade, but for the rest of their lives. These manipulatives will not only help my students become proficient, but will also help them learn to love math. Please help me in giving all students more hands-on experiences. The manipulatives would provide opportunities for me to give the students more hands-on experiences.

These manipulatives are essential for successful, meaningful centers.

I am already doing centers but with more manipulatiives I will have more variety and they will be more effective. The manipulatives I am requesting are for teaching the common core subjects of time, money, place value, measurement, and basic math facts.
