This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade in a high poverty elementary school in a large district in Oklahoma. I have a high population of English language learners.
I teach at a Reading First school and it can be hard to get materials for math. My students love anything hands on. Any time my students can manipulate what they are learning they are much more likely to understand and retain the information. I am trying to gain enough math manipulatives to be able to have math centers for my students for each topic they need to learn.
I need 22 different math manipulatives including a set of hands on games in order to create math learning centers for my students. These manipulatives will give my students the much needed opportunity they need to learn each area of math they are required to know by the end of first grade.
Your help will ensure that my students get an awesome and hands on jump start in their lifetime learning of math. First grade is really a starting block for that. Thank you so much for taking time to read my proposal.
