Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come into our classroom smiling every morning. For many of them kindergarten is their first experience with school and they would attend three hundred and sixty-five days a year if they could! They are like sponges soaking up everything.

I like to think that we teach the whole child at our school.

It's not just about the reading and writing, but inspiring the next Van Gogh or Galileo. We incorporate lots of hands-on activities so they can apply what they are learning in different ways. We have over 90% of our students who qualify for free/reduced lunch, which means their families live below the poverty level. I want to make sure they are growing in every area of their lives.

My Project

Math is often hard for the little ones. Most of the concepts are new to them and sometimes it's hard for them to wrap their brains around the new ideas. The best way for them to practice is with hands-on activities. They can manipulate counters and tiles to sort, make patterns, practice adding and subtracting. They can discover the way the numbers work together to make new numbers.

With these resources, you can help make math fun for my students!

Every day they work in what we call workstations-the students work together in groups to complete math tasks. These different materials-the dice, cubes, linking games, shapes kit will help give the students practice with these new math concepts in a fun and exciting way!
